Motor Vehicle Registrations
Registering, Insuring and Inspecting a Vehicle in the State of Maine
Maine law requires that a Maine motor vehicle registration be applied for within 30 days of residency being declared or established within the State.
Maine law requires that every owner and operator of a motor vehicle maintain motor vehicle liability insurance and present evidence upon the request of a law enforcement officer as well as to a Motor Vehicle Agent at the time of registration.
All motor vehicles registered within the State of Maine are required to have a current inspection before being operated on any public way. The inspection must be done at an official inspection station once a year.
Please Note: Cash, Check and Debit/Credit Cards are accepted for payment. Any transaction that is paid by the use of credit and debit cards will incur a 2.5% fee that will add to the transaction processed by Maine PayPort the service provider. This fee covers the bank service charge for the transaction. There is a minimum $1.00 fee. All fees will be shown on your receipt.
There is a $35.00 penalty fee for any returned check. Return check fees could increase without notice.
